Shockwave Therapy
Here at In Good Hands we are very pleased to be able to provide our clients with the opportunity to receive Shockwave Therapy. This is added treatment to improve chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
How does Shockwave Therapy work?
Shockwave Therapy accelerates the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. In a way, kick starts the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
What does treatment involve?
The Therapist will apply gel to the affected area and using a handheld applicator will deliver acoustic pulses into the damaged tissue. There may be some discomfort but it is quick and easy to perform. Sessions take around 10 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
You will require between 3 – 6 treatments, usually spaced 1 week apart. This will depend on how you respond. Your Therapist will determine this.
What can Shockwave Therapy be used to treat?
Most Tendon related pain, Planter Fasciitis, tennis/golfer’s elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, jumper’s knee, Gluteal tendinopathy, Rotator Cuff tendinopathy, runner’s knee and Hamstring tendinopathy. Also, Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, to name a few.
Are there any side effects of Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy has few side effects. Some patients have reported reddening of the skin, minor pain, swelling or bruising. These usually abate after 5 – 10 days.
Is there any reason why I shouldn’t have Shockwave Therapy?
If you are pregnant. If you have a blood clotting disorder. If you are taking anti-coagulants. If you have received a steroid injection within 6 weeks. If tumours are present at the treatment site.
