Carolyn has been a dedicated practitioner of Pilates and Yoga for more than three decades. After finishing University with a BSc, PGDipA and MA Carolyn travelled extensively with her husband, living in France, England, Canada and the USA where she taught Pilates, yoga and group fitness classes. On returning to NZ she updated her Pilates and Yoga qualifications, additionally training as a Barre instructor and Personal Trainer, and continued to teach in Auckland.
In recent years Carolyn has also been teaching “Yogalates”, which is what we are initially offering here at In Good Hands Physiotherapy. Yogalates combines the core strength, fitness training and body toning of Pilates with the stretching, flexibility, and improved range of motion of yoga, in one session.
Carolyn has developed her own blend of Pilates and yoga which she adapts to all fitness levels and abilities. Her teaching is more personal because the class numbers are limited. Carolyn is a fully qualified Pilates Mat and Reformer teacher, a member of Yoga Aotearoa and the International Yoga Alliance and is a REPS Registered Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer. Carolyn is also available for one-on-one training.
Yogalates works well in many ways: the improved core muscle strength from Pilates can advance your sporting endeavours, help prevent injury, assist in relieving chronic pain (especially lower back pain); it supports good posture and greatly assists in improving your yoga practice. Furthermore, the resistance component of Pilates contributes to improved bone health (especially for those of us who are a little older). The yoga component gives you improved flexibility, mobility and balance. You learn to breathe correctly which contributes to greater energy and vitality; it also helps with stress relief and you will sleep better! And last, but far from least, the combination of the two disciplines is a great form of exercise for rehabilitation from injury.
